Most school districts, including mine, require teachers to assign grades for student work. At the end of the day, all the stakeholders inevitably judge the grade which reinforces a fixed mindset and no one really knows what the student knows and where they need to grow.

In this session, I will introduce and share resources for the system I am using for pivoting from traditional grades to standards and proficiency based feedback. We’ll work in small groups using culturally and linguistically responsive strategies to achieve our session goals: I can describe the current learner level of understanding for a specific standard using codes. I can create standard specific feedback for a learning outcome. I can coach a student from where they are at in their math learning to level up.
